Valley of Enemy Creek (WIP01)

This week I’ve been focused on the big painting. I will probably still be adding color and lighting adjustments to some of these areas.
30″x 48″ canvas.

When I sketch my paintings, I use watercolor pencil and push my lines around with water and a brush. I usually paint the background yellow, tan, rust, or even red. I use gesso with a little fluid acrylic, in this case Indian Yellow. I never leave it white!

  1. Thank you for your tips. When I prepare my canvas I scrape up any left over paint and use it. It usually turns out a muddy brown. I like how the trees look in the foreground.
